EMDR Basic Training for adults

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a scientifically proven method for processing distressing or traumatic experiences. Since its development by Francine Shapiro in 1989, EMDR has been successfully used to treat trauma and various other psychological conditions.

During this inspiring four-day basic training, you will learn step by step how to apply the full EMDR protocol with adults suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other trauma-related issues.

After completing this training, you will be able to:

  • Independently and responsibly apply the complete EMDR standard protocol.
  • Effectively treat relatively uncomplicated PTSD cases.

Who can apply?

This training follows the admission criteria of the EMDR Association Netherlands (VEN) and is intended for: GZ-psychologists, clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, psychotherapists, nurse specialists, cognitive behavioural therapists and family therapists. Participants must be employed for at least 12 hours per week in the field of mental health care.

What you will learn

The training combines theory, demonstrations, and extensive practical exercises:

  • Explanation of the scientific background and mechanisms of EMDR.
  • Demonstrations using video examples.
  • Intensive practice sessions in small groups and pairs.
  • Practicing with personal (mild) emotionally charged memories.
  • After day 2: applying what you have learned in your own clinical practice.
  • On days 3 and 4: reviewing video fragments of your own sessions and practicing additional techniques, including the Flash-Forward Protocol.

You can find the admission requirements below in the FAQs. Have you completed the basic training and are looking for more in-depth knowledge? Then take our advanced training.
